Christmas Fish In 2018

We are holding our annual Christmas Fish In / social event on Saturday 29th December 2018 and would be delighted if you decide to come down and fish, or just come say hello for a drink and a chat.

Venue – Old River Irwell – Ferry Road, Irlam M44 6DN – free parking in the Boathouse Pub car park.

Most anglers will be trying to catch some of the superb pike which live in the Old River – but a couple of others including club chairman Mike Duddy will be trying to build a net of silver fish on bread punch.

The day will start at first light – and finish when it goes dark (or we get fed up and go to warm up in the pub)

We will have a lovely bottle of Cognac to share, and help make the conversations flow.

World Fishing Day 2018 Salford Quays Lure Competition Result

We had a great time today on Salford Quays.

The weather was fantastic, plenty of people came down to say hello including tv crews from the BBC and www.fishingtv.com

The anglers appeared to use two main tactics – an all out pike attack with big lures in the open waters of the quays – and more specialised perch fishing tactics with mini lures fished down the edge and around features.

The pike didn’t really want to play ball today – with a few follows and dropped hookups but in contrast the only angler who concentrated on small perch had a great time.

Congratulations to Marian Dumitrascu – our winner on the day with 525cm (17ft 3inch) of perch !!

As always – the Quays fished well and produced the fish to an angler who has done his homework and got his tactics right.

I can’t omit a mention to all the people who came down for a walk, a chat, a fish (non competition) who made todays event such a great social event….

Lets hope www.worldfishingday.com has been a great success – and it is repeated in 2019 – we will definitely get involved again and give people more notice that an event is taking place.

Fish Of The Year 2015

Congratulations to Kaden McCarthy – aged 12 from Salford. Winner of Salford Friendly Anglers fish of the year competition 2015

Not only did young Kaden manage to capture this magnificent 22lb pike from a canal in the City Centre of Manchester, he went out a week later and caught another slightly bigger but less photogenic fish from a different part of the same canal.

Add bream from the Castlefield Basin, and some great carp from Moss Farm Fishery into the mix then you end up with a very deserving young winner, who has been out in all weathers catching fish that would make any senior member proud to catch.

So Kaden was invited to our recent Christmas meeting where instead of receiving the usual bottle of Cognac for winning, we presented our young winner with a Spro Drop Shooting rod and reel. Presented by local angling legend Ant Glascoe Jnr – predator fisherman extraordinaire – who generously brought along a goodie bag of items from his own personal stash of gear.

Top of the range Costa Sunglasses, loads of the latest Savage Gear lures – our young champ was highly delighted with his haul of goodies on the evening.

Maybe best of all, Ant Glascoe Jnr has promised to take him out fishing on a couple of local venues next Spring.

The to cap off a fine night for the young man, he won first prize in our raffle, a new 12ft barbel rod……. this fella has luck and skill, a great combination.
